New Orleans City Council & Mayoral LFCD Approval

The City of New Orleans supports and fosters cultural investment. Within 30 days, the City Council approved support for the LFCD with a unanimous vote. Shortly after, within two months, the seated Mayor signed in support for the designation; understanding the need for increased technical support for the cultural anchors, artists, and businesses in the region.

Join us in Asset Mapping the existing places of dance, music, live entertainment, comedy, gospel, water trails, nature exhibits, restaurants, visual art like sculptures, utility box painting, as examples, and of course, the people of cultural influence. Buildings prime for revitalization that may benefit from Historic Tax Credits are also mapped as LA Office of Cultural Districts submitted “Potential Placed for Development.”

What is a cultural district?  

A designated area that promotes arts, culture, history, and community activity to support economic and cultural revitalization.

Who leads the district?  

Lake Forest Cultural District Committee, a collaborative coalition of nonprofits, neighborhood associations, businesses, churches, schools, artists, and residents. 

How is the district organized?

How does the district support business growth?  

By increasing foot traffic, enhancing corridor identity, attracting investment, and creating partnership and vendor opportunities.

Does the district support affordable or artist housing?  

Yes—through advocacy and collaboration with partners, though the district does not directly develop housing.

Do listed businesses need to be culture/arts‑related?  

Yes.

How can businesses get involved?  

Participate in events, support beautification, partner on public art, attend meetings, or sponsor district projects.

How may cultural businesses, artists organizations, supporters get involved?  

Support/market the LFCD to increase attendance and sales in the district. Join a mural/ public art project, perform at events, propose creative ideas, or collaborate inter-generationally with varied businesses/community groups.

What activities does the district support?  

Marketing/promotion, tech/media advances, public art, cultural events, youth programming, beautification, heritage projects, and partnerships across the community.
